mackenzies flat picnic area @ lerderderg state park, baccus marsh
/Mamma says for family fun and adventure in nature, you can't beat this GORGEous spot.
The Mackenzies Flat picnic area is a lovely spot to have a kids party with bbq or picnic lunch options for those who love outdoor adventures. There is a beautiful grassy area for games or to kick around a ball and the space is dotted with lovely draping Peppercorn trees covering a few picnic tables.
This overlooks the Lerderderg River with plenty of rocky pools to have a splash, skip stones along the water, or go on the hunt for frogs, skinks and yabbies.
You will need to go early to grab a space on weekends and public holidays as this is a popular place for day hikers. Also, as the picnic tables are spread out, make sure to bring some picnic blankets.
Mamma’s special mention: For further adventures, there are a few bush walks that lead off from here, such as the family-friendly Grahams Dam walk.
