The Trending Birthday Party Idea: The Kmart Shopping Challenge

You’ve probably seen this all over social media or heard the kids buzzing about it—it’s a huge hit right now and a tweens’ dream for a birthday party! Essentially, it’s like a scavenger hunt with a twist.

Firstly, settle on a small number of kids to invite and make sure you have enough room in the car or can arrange for the kids to be dropped off at the ‘shopping centre’ or location you decide on and away you go! Here are the rules of engagement on the challenge!

The Kmart Shopping Challenge RULES

You MUST stay within the allocated budget
We must all stay together at all times
No rushing around like crazy, we have plenty of time
Remember this is a shop - same rules as a library kids - respectful and calm at all times
You must buy everything on the challenge list
Again - Please be respectful of each other, other shoppers and staff

YOUR CHALLENGE:
- Find something starting with the first letter of the Birthday person!
- Something that glitters and sparkles
- Something you can eat
- Something creative
- Something yellow (Birthday person’s favourite colour!)

Here are some PRO TIPS:
- Keep the party SMALL
- Make sure their shopping list includes the RULES as well.
- Get VOUCHERS for the kids. $20 - $30 is plenty depending on the size of the group.
- The items become their party bag to take home with them!
- Arrange dinner/lunch after the ‘shopping challenge’ so you can swap stories and check out what everyone got
- This can be applied to any shop - $2 shops, Target, Big W?
